(June 14, 2014) –  Yesterday’s tricky, occasionally windless, conditions for the Around the Island Race insisted on sticking around this morning, causing a postponement ashore for 189 teams sailing in the 160th New York Yacht Club Annual Regatta presented by Rolex. Old friends caught up on the docks, but then put their game faces on when the AP flag was lowered and classes began dispersing to three different circles on Rhode Island Sound (IRC and One-Designs) and a fourth on Narragansett Bay (Classics and Navigators). (June 13, 2014) – Sailors took to the low side of their boats in light air and rain during today’s Around the Island Race that kicked off the New York Yacht Club 160th Annual Regatta presented by Rolex. The 19-nautical-mile circumnavigation of Jamestown (Conanicut Island) was planned to be a brilliant teaser for this weekend’s two-day series off Newport, R.I., and so it was, from the perspective of hosting 105 magnificently cool boats (189 are due to race over the weekend). (July 17, 2014) -- Some new racing formats were tried today at New York Yacht Club Race Week at Newport presented by Rolex, and though the wind was fairly light, anything was better than yesterday, when racing on opening day of the biennial event’s Part II was cancelled due to the threat of severe thunderstorms. (July 18, 2014) – When a building southwesterly, starting at five knots and maxing out at 12, funneled into Narragansett Bay this afternoon, the waterfront view from Jamestown and Newport (south of Newport’s Pell Bridge) resembled that of a race track. Instead of colorful cars zipping around; however, it was high performance race boats sailing by to complete their third day of competition in Part II of New York Yacht Club Race Week at Newport presented by Rolex.
