San Diego Yacht Club Repeats at Morgan Cup Champions

NEWPORT, R.I. (August 6, 2017) — For the third time in four years, the Morgan Cup, the toughest trophy in keelboat team racing, has been won by a team from the West Coast. San Diego Yacht Club repeated as the champion today, defeating New York Yacht Club 3-1 in a thrilling final series sailed under blue skies and in a shifty and puffy northwesterly breeze. From 2003, when the Morgan Cup Team Race was first run, through 2013, only the host New York Yacht Club and Long Island's Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club were able to lay claim to the trophy. Southern California's Newport Harbor Yacht Club broke that stranglehold in 2014 and San Diego Yacht Club now appears poised to start its own run.

Defender Proves Age Is Just a Number With Queen's Cup Victory

NEWPORT, R.I. — If everything had gone to plan, Paul Zabetakis and his Impetuous team would be celebrating their first Swan 42 National Championship and the opportunity to represent the host club in the Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup in September. While the former is something Zabetakis has chased for more than a decade, not earning the latter gives his win in the 11th Swan 42 National Championship a bittersweet quality.

German Team, American Boat and Swiss Craftsmanship make a Power Trio at 163rd Annual Regatta presented by Rolex

NEWPORT, R.I. — With two firsts and a second in testing offshore conditions, Harald Bruning and his team on the C&C30 Topas (above with Dustin Longest of Rolex and NYYC Commodore Philip A. Lotz) separated from a competitive nine-boat fleet and won overall class honors in the 163rd New York Yacht Club Annual Regatta presented by Rolex, sponsored by Porsche and AIG and supported by Helly Hansen. Bruning's win also earned him a Rolex Submariner Timepiece for the best overall performance in the Annual Regatta's two-day series.
